Abstract:

The virtualization field is constantly evolving. Container technology is gaining popularity for the opportunities it can offer in terms of performance thanks to its "lightweight virtualization" approach. The first part of this seminar will provide an overview of Docker, an open platform for building, shipping, and running applications, possibly in a distributed fashion. The second part will focus on the experience gained in a real usage scenario, describing how "containerization" has been integrated into the Continuous Integration process already in use to deploy and test StoRM, a core Grid middleware application.
