Non-Geometric 6D Heterotic Vacua and Their F-Theory Duals

Abstract: After giving an introduction to the topic and motivating the problem, we construct six-dimensional heterotic string theory vacua in a two-step procedure: first we compactify on a two-torus followed by a further compactification along two dimensions where we allow for a non-trivial varying of the two-torus moduli fields. Afterwards, we will use the duality between heterotic string theory and F-theory to map these vacua to the F-theory side where we have the tools to study them in full detail.
