Abstract:

First results of DarkSide-50 will be reported. DarkSide-50 is a direct dark matter experiment operating at the Gran Sasso Laboratory and searching for  rare nuclear recoils possibly induced by dark matter Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs). The DarkSide-50 detector is a liquid argon Time Projection Chamber (TPC) with 46 kg of active mass. The TPC is installed inside an active 30 tons liquid scintillator neutron veto. The neutron veto is installed inside a 1000 tons water Cherenkov detector. Dark matter nuclear recoils were searched for with 1400 kg-day exposure with atmospheric argon. No candidates were observed. Performances of the DarkSide-50 detector at present will be presented. Plans for use of underground argon and future plans of DarkSide will be reported.
