Abstract

The Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA), the new generation very high-energy gamma-ray observatory, will improve the flux sensitivity of the current Cherenkov telescopes by an order of magnitude over a continuous range from about 10 GeV to above 100 TeV.

CTA will consist of two arrays of tens of telescopes: one in the southern hemisphere, to observe the wealth of sources in the central region of our Galaxy, and one in the north, primarily devoted to the study of the Extragalactic sky, providing for example access to Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) and galaxies at cosmological distances, and star formation and evolution.

The ASTRI project has developed, in the framework of the Cherenkov Telescope Array, an end-to-end prototype of the small-size telescope, devoted to the investigation of the energy range ~ 1-100 TeV.

The next goal is the deployment and the operation of a mini-array composed of a few ASTRI Small Size Telescopes at the final CTA southern site in Chile. In this talk is presented an overview and the status of the project. See you on Thursday in the seminars’ room, floor -1, via Ranzani 1, on time at 14h.
